Welcome to the first makeup post on LizzieMeates! I decided to kick off both the new year and these new posts with a Project Pan. This is my first proper attempt at a Project Pan – I’m rather curious to see how it turns out!
What is a Project Pan?
A Project Pan is where you attempt to use up or ‘pan’ different makeup products within a period of time (i.e. a year). This can either be achieved once you hit pan in the product (i.e. enough product is used up so that the pan is exposed) or until you use the entire product up (i.e. reducing it to its pan only). The same concept can be applied to liquid products, lipsticks, etc:
Why a Project Pan?
I liked the challenge of panning different products by the end of the year. I was also curious how much it would take to hit pan and/or use up a product entirely.
Project Pan 2020: Background and Parameters
Product Selection, Additions, and Replacements
Seeing that this is my first proper attempt at a Project Pan, I only selected five products as I didn’t want to overwhelm myself quantity-wise.
This will be a rolling Project Pan, so additional products can be added if I do achieve pan before the year ends. I’ve also decided that I can add products if I want to do so during the year.
I’ve tried to select products that I enjoy using, however if something ceases to bring me joy then I’ve left the option to remove it and replace it with another product. Similarly if a product expires then it can be removed and replaced. Hopefully this won’t be necessary but I’ve seen others have this as a parameter and it seems sensible.
Progress Reports
This is my ‘Starting Point’ for the Project Pan. I intend to check-in every three months with progress reports – the end of March, June, and September 2020. The December 2020 check-in will be combined with the ‘Finale’ in early January 2021.
As progress isn’t always noticeable in photos, I’ll weigh the product at each check-in and hope that we see a decrease in weight even if the picture at ‘check-in’ looks unimpressive!
Project Pan 2020: The Products
Urban Decay Afterglow Highlighter in Sin.
Starting weight (January 2020): 48g / 1.7oz
This was the first highlighter that I bought and I did so on the recommendation of Samantha March (one of my favourite YouTubers, her channel can be found here). I really enjoy this highlighter, it’s a gorgeous champagne shade and I especially love it for ‘office’ looks as it can be delightfully subtle.
Goal: I would like to just hit pan in this product, as opposed to pan it entirely. I couldn’t capture it in the picture, but there is a small dip in the powder so I have high hopes that this might happen during 2020!
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim.
Starting weight (January 2020): 90g / 3.2oz
Oh, this powder. It is magic. It has a lovely diffusing effect, especially under electric lighting (making it another office favourite). It was Stephanie Nicole (also on YouTube, here channel can be found here), who prompted purchasing this product, and I’m very happy for it.
Goal: I would like to fully pan this product – I have panned a mini of this previously so I think I stand a good chance of panning the full-size version.
Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten in Porcelain.
Starting weight (January 2020): 54g / 1.9oz
My go-to foundations are generally of the liquid variety and I fully bought this powder foundation because (1) it was on sale and (2) it was available in my shade and (3) the reviews seemed good. It is actually a lovely foundation, but because I reach for liquid foundations before I even think about a power foundation, I feel that this has been neglected – hence its inclusion in this Project Pan.
Goal: I would like to just hit pan on this product, I have managed to wear down the ‘dome’ but even with that progress as the starting point I think hitting pan would be a great success.
Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer in Inda Sun
Starting weight (January 2020): 60g / 2.1oz
I wear this a lot and yet I haven’t hit pan! It is for this reason that I’ve included it in this project.
Goal: I would like to pan this entirely by the end of the year. I have worn away the ‘FB’ embossing and I think there is a slight dip in the centre so it seems possible.
Milani Eyeshadow Primer in Nude.
Starting weight (January 2020): 23g / 0.8oz
The purchase of this primer was totally based off YouTuber’s Emily Noel’s consistent recommendations (her channel can be found here). I do enjoy using it and it does seem to help eyeshadows (including stubborn ones) to last longer.
Goal: I would like to pan this entirely.
So there they are, the starting products for my 2020 Project Pan! Will you be undertaking a Project Pan? If so, what products made it? I’d love to hear from you!
